This is the poster that launched a million nightmares and ruined the ocean for me for at least a few summers. The flipside is that I ended up a diver and finally separated the myth from reality. Unless you were of "legal" filmgoing age during this period...
(I wasn't but got in anyway, with my neighbor who was)...you can't really understand what this film did when it came out. It really started the whole event blockbuster craze that has now become a part of our everyday lives every Summer and Christmas. Jaws was a metaphor for the fear that we all have of the unknown and the terrestrial and extraterrestial places in our psyches over which Mankind has no dominion.
